The finest contemporary Chinese calligraphy is informed by philosophical, aesthetic and historical inquiry and uses both traditional  and contemporary techniques to uncover the principles of Chinese Shufa. It is a high technique of creation which combines the features of both calligraphy and painting. Zhao Yi Zhou embraces the long tradition of Chinese calligraphy while using an alchemic ink of his own invention to add new textures, here he mixes images and texts relating to philosophy, spirituality and literature, based on ancient Chinese poems, songs, and quotations. He shows the unique oriental beauty of the combination of ancient Chinese thought and calligraphic art in multiple styles and forms.
